Our History

The Nayak Cultural Troupe was founded on the 11th of July, 1999 under the direct supervision of Mrs. Beatrice Hammond with only five members. The number has since increased with time. Nayak: a local language which means "God's grace was chosen because of the aim of the troupe to help inculcate true African traditions in the audience". The name "NAYAK” also empowers to improve and bring about a little development of the traditional African art. This also helps us to present the African music, dance, drumming and acrobats to the world. Nayak Cultural Troupe as a group has gone through a lot of training in the music, dance, drumming and acrobats industry to be abreast with all the skills and expertise needed to arouse and maintain the interest of the audience wherever we perform. Our performance cut across all spheres of life, ranging from drama, percussion, music, drumming and dancing teaching the act of drumming and dancing etc. We have performed in various functions, from private programmed to public programmed, including state -runned ones. We undertake teaching of individuals, groups, the act of drumming, dancing, drama, acrobats (acting) and also hold refresher programmed to upgrade the skills of members and others alike. With Knowledge of almost all the African drumming, music, dancing and acrobats’ skills from other African countries, we are able to teach both the local and foreign dances much to the satisfaction of those who require our service. We hope you enjoy this site and also recommend our service. Feel free to comment and criticize us constructively. Thank you. Founder- Director, Beatrice Hammond.
